SPC's Large-tow Carbon Fiber Composite Material Reinforcement Gains another New Application

The newly developed 12mm diameter large-tow carbon fiber composite material reinforcement by SPC have been successfully applied to the heavy-duty boom project of Shanghai Midea Global Innovation Park after a series of mechanical property tests, marking another major breakthrough of the application of carbon fiber composite material technology in the field of civil engineering.

SPC, in cooperation with China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Corporation and other units, has innovatively designed a heavy-duty boom that integrates decoration and protection using 48K large-tow carbon fiber composite material reinforcement. Compared with traditional steel booms, under the same volume, usage of steel in carbon fiber composite material booms could be reduced by 60%, and the weight could be reduced by 50%. At the same time, this material has the characteristics of high strength, low density, corrosion resistance, and fatigue resistance, etc. It not only shows more excellent mechanical properties under the same loading conditions but also can maintain stable performance and extend its service life in complex and harsh environments.
